With the sale of our BE NORDIC range, we support marine conservation projects — regionally, across Germany, and internationally. One example is on the French Atlantic coast, south of Bordeaux.
A.D.R.E.M.C.A. (Association pour la Défense, la Recherche et les Études Marines de la Côte Aquitaine) is a non-profit association dedicated to protecting, researching, and monitoring the marine environment along Aquitaine’s Atlantic coast. Since 1979, the association has promoted scientific studies, the restoration of marine fauna, and the protection of the sea.
A key project is the operation of an artificial reef off Mimizan, built on the wreck of a Portuguese ship. The reef creates diverse habitats that ensure the protection and growth of juvenile animals. Various studies have shown that these biotopes of different sizes have a positive impact on the ecosystem.
An important step forward in the association’s work was the acquisition of a new sonar system, made possible with the support of partners such as TRIXIE. This sonar is essential for mapping the reef and conducting scientific assessments of its impacts. Monitoring is also carried out with an underwater drone.
A.D.R.E.M.C.A. is additionally active in environmental education, organizing trainings, workshops, and public events, and collaborating with regional partners such as the Département des Landes and the Biarritz Sea Museum. Outreach takes place through conferences, media, and dedicated programs for schools and senior homes.
Funded by grants and partnerships, the association is a key player in the sustainable protection and scientific monitoring of marine ecosystems along the Côte Aquitaine.
